In April the Credit Union celebrated Youth Month. We gave away gift cards, Child ID Kits and held a contest to guess the amount of money in a jar of coins. The winner of the contest was Carlee Berkenkemper who guessed that there was $100.02 in the jar. Close behind her was Miranda Hewitt who guessed $100.00. Carlee has won the actual amount in the jar as a deposit to her account, which was $104.50. Congratulations Carlee, and thanks to everyone who participated.
Do You Know Why Credit Unions Are Different?
Credit Unions are non-profit financial institutions. At LM Federal we offer many free and discounted services to our members for many reasons. We do not sell a service just to make a profit. We will never recommend a service to a member that will not be beneficial to the member. We also try to give members many options when it comes to general banking questions, accessing funds, or applying for a loan or new service. We are always happy to explain all of your options when trying to change or add a new service.
If you are ever charged a fee at another financial institution or even for a Credit Union service, ask a Member Service Rep how you can avoid the fee in the future. For example, if you are being charged a monthly service fee for your checking account, maybe it’s time to change the type of checking you have. Are you paying for ATM withdrawals? Consider using a Visa Check Card for purchases. Are you paying fees for money orders? You could opening a free checking account and get a free box of checks. If you ever have a question about anything, we will always try to help, even if it’s not something directly related to a Credit Union service. Why are Credit Unions different from Banks? We are here to serve our members, not to make a profit.
Did you know that there’s more to consider when buying a vehicle other than the cost of the vehicle??? While the Credit Union can help you with vehicle pricing, we can also help you save money on the following...
-GAP Protection is available at a low cost of $229, whereas most dealers charge up to $700 for the same service. Call for a free GAP analysis.
-Extended Warranties, up to 7 years and 100,000 miles, and usually cost less than half the price that the dealer charges. You can buy an extended warranty if you don’t finance with us!
-Financing, dealers may offer 0% financing, but usually only for those with excellent credit. We have affordable rates for members with no credit or even moderate credit problems. Consider taking the cash rebate and financing with the Credit Union!
-Carfax reports, if you’re buying a used vehicle and the dealer isn’t offering a free Carfax report, call the Credit Union. We can pull the report for you at a discounted rate and will refund the fee of up to 3 reports if you finance with us!

Annual Membership Meeting Highlights
LM Federal's Annual Membership Meeting was held on Thursday, April 24th. The Credit Union's Board of Directors was present and made reports on the Credit Union's financial condition.
Discussion was made on the current mortgage crisis that is affecting the banking industry. The Board of Directors commended LM Federal for not being involved in high risk mortgage loans and there were no loan losses in 2007 from home equity loans.
Mike Wade, the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee, reported his findings on the 2007 annual audit. He confirmed that there were no major findings. Vivian Bold, the Credit Union's Treasurer, announced that this year was her 45th year attending the Annual Membership Meeting!
The following officials were elected for a 3 year term: Credit Committee-Bob Caswell (chairman), Bill Cosden (alternate); Board of Directors- Vivian Bold (treasurer), Bob Ivy, Bob Caswell.
